Gender Equity Training for Women | Preventing Family Violence
Sikh Community Connections (SCC) recently hosted an impactful Gender Equity and Prevention of Gender-Based Violence training session on 11th March, delivered by DPV Health, as part of our ongoing commitment to strengthening community awareness and capacity.
This session brought together women from South Asian backgrounds in a safe and welcoming environment to engage in meaningful conversations around gender equity, respect, and the prevention of violence.
Understanding the Root Causes
The training focused on unpacking the underlying factors that contribute to family violence. Participants explored the gendered drivers of violenceโincluding inequality, rigid gender roles, and power imbalancesโthat disproportionately affect women and gender diverse people.
Through interactive discussions and real-life scenarios, the session helped participants better understand how these drivers operate within communities and how they can be challenged.
A Tailored and Engaging Approach
One of the strengths of this session was its culturally responsive approach. DPV Health tailored the content to reflect the lived experiences of South Asian women, making it highly relatable and relevant.
The session was not only informative but also deeply engaging, encouraging participants to share their perspectives, ask questions, and reflect on their own roles in promoting gender equality.
Inspiring Action
Beyond awareness, the training inspired practical ideas and actions that individuals and communities can take to reduce and prevent family violence. From fostering respectful relationships to challenging harmful norms, participants left with a stronger sense of empowerment and responsibility.
Strengthening Community Capacity
At SCC, we believe that education and open dialogue are key to building safer, more inclusive communities. This training is part of our broader effort to equip community members with the knowledge and tools needed to create positive change.
We are proud to see such strong participation and engagement from women in our community and look forward to continuing this important work in partnership with organisations like DPV Health.
Together, we can build a future where respect, equality, and safety are at the heart of every community.
