What is Mental Health?

Understanding how an individual deals with their own wellbeing. Can a person cope with the normal situations and stresses of life.

Mental health can appear at any point in a person’s life,

Mental health is not just an illness it’s a person’s state of mind. Which can be triggered by anything which is personal to that individual.

The concept of Mental health as a form of wellness is not well understood or accepted in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities

There is stigma, denial and shame associated with a person known to have a mental illness; the majority attitude is a binary measure between crazy or not crazy.

It is not unusual for people with mental health issues to be ostracised by their own families and isolated from community.

Sikh Community Connections do not offer advice on a professional level as we are not experts, however we do have a mental health first aider if you need to talk. We can only guide you to the many other mental health organisations which are in place and have professionals who can offer you help.

Please remember that you can contact your GP should you require any further support or information.

With knowledge comes power!

To make fully informed decisions about yours or a loved one’s health you need to be equipped with information and this is what we hope to provide you here.
